Ways I am being transformed by Love

Eden

Earlier this week I bought the Phil Wickham CD called “Heaven and Earth”. The first song on this CD of his is called “Eden”. I loved this song before I bought it, but I’ve listened to it a lot more since having it.  Before I say any more, here are the lyrics:

When the first light brightened the dark
Before the breaking of the human heart
There was You and there was me
Innocence was all I knew
‘Cause all I had to know was You
We were running underneath the trees

I wanna see you face to face
Where being in your arms is the permanent state
I want it like it was back then
I wanna be in Eden

I remember how You’d call my name
And I would meet You at the garden gate
How the glory of Your love would shine
And I remember when the stars were young
You breathed life into my lungs
Oh I never felt so alive

I wanna see you face to face
Where being in your arms is the permanent state
I want it like it was back then
I wanna be in Eden

To be naked and unashamed
In a sweet down pour of innocent rain
I want it like it was back then
I wanna be in Eden

Where my eyes can see the colors of glory
My hands can reach the heaven before me
Oh, my God I wanna be there with You
Where our hearts will beat with joy together
And love will reign forever and ever
Oh my God I wanna be there with You

I wanna see you face to face
Where being in your arms is the permanent state
I want it like it was back then
I wanna be in Eden

To be naked and unashamed
In a sweet down pour of innocent rain
I want it like it was back then
I wanna be in Eden

What a place to be – a place where we could walk unashamedly with God in the gardens, just hanging out in a world of innocent perfection.

I’ve been doing a Bible study that talks a lot about how we should expect miracles and displays of God’s hand. While I realized these things were possible this first year of college, I now understand how to fight for it. God can give you miracles and reveal Himself to You. We cannot comprehend or understand His full glory so He gives us mere glimpses of it. And those are enough.

As for how all that ties together, I got a job at Smoothie King about two and a half weeks ago. The plan for this summer was to do my internship and read and hang out a lot. As it turns out, I can’t stand Lawrenceville, was going stir crazy, and got really lonely really fast. So I decided I needed a job. I got hired immediately, as the sign spinner. You know, that humiliated iPod wearing teenager that spins a big advertisement for whatever business will hire them. Yeah, that’s me. However, I was told I may get a position inside the store. I grabbed at that chance. I started praying for it and got some people close to me to be praying for it, and wouldn’t you know that God worked in my favor? I am now a team member (and also a sign spinner when I want more hours). It takes up time so I feel busy, am being more productive, and because I’m being more productive I seek the Lord more.

So I was listening to Phil Wickham today on the way to work, about an hour and a half after I found out I was being hired. Halfway there, it’s like the sky fell out and it started monsooning on me. About then, I was singing “In a sweet down pour of innocent rain, I want it like it was back then, I wanna be in Eden.” I don’t know how long the rain lasted, but it couldn’t have been more than fifteen minutes. In that time, I got my own Eden today.  The lyrics above, those were mine today.

Miracles don’t have to be a million dollars dropping into your lap or something extremely obvious like that. Being in my own Eden with my Creator…that’s a miracle. Getting the job inside Smoothie King after the hiring had been done when I desperately needed something extra to fill my time with…that’s a miracle.

And as an added bonus, I ran 5 miles tonight at about a 13 minute mile pace. That is a miracle. I’m not even kidding…the most I’ve ever run without stopping was 3.1 miles and it nearly killed me. Tonight I was running as a victory lap for the job, and the Lord was there.

  1. “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28 You’re right in saying that miracles don’t have to come in the form of a million dollars in your lap. He is planning His work and working His plan for your life….TRUST period. Before my friend Alli Rogers was a famous Christian singer songwriter, she was waiting tables. Her mission was the same. Sign spinners have the same mission as those behind the counter. Live to glorify Him with your hands, your lips, and your life. That’s my two cents 🙂 ….but I promise it’s a morsel of truth worth far more than that.
